COVID-19 Cancelation FAQ

Megaplex has always tried to be upfront with our attendees and we know there are a lot of questions. We hope that we can answer some of them here. Please note that Registration and hotel reservation information can be found on the main Covid-19 Info page.


I was unable to attend after purchasing a registration for 2019. What will happen to my rollover?
Those that were unable to attend in 2019 after purchasing a registration were emailed on January 4th, 2020 with details on the coupon code to use to claim their 2020 registration. Those who have not used their coupon code yet will still be able to for 2021 once registration opens again in early January. Those that have already claimed their code will be eligible to transfer their registration over to 2021 but are not eligible to donate their registration or to request a refund.


Why did Megaplex make the decision now?
This is a fairly loaded question and we will try to answer it as briefly as we can. As we have been watching this crisis unfold, we have been in regular contact with the hotel, medical professionals, and yes even legal counsel. You may have seen discussion of some of the legalities of canceling a contract on twitter by certain in fandom legal professionals but in short, we had to wait until we could reasonably show that the convention could not happen in order to terminate contracts for this year. This meant we had to move forward as if the convention was happening because it very well could and not everything can be done in the last few months. Equally we had to closely watch finances and determine at what point would we lose the ability to offer full refunds as an option due to upcoming expenses. We reached the crossroads of the two and chose to seek cancelation of this year’s convention as the ability to have a convention of our size no longer seemed like a viable option.


What's going to happen to the theme and guests for this year?
The theme and all the work that our staff and staff artists have done this year will be moving over to next year. We have reached out to our 2020 Guests of Honor in hopes that they will still be able to join us for Megaplex 2021. At this time we have confirmation from Kyell Gold and Hyena Agenda with a tentative confirmation from Alkali Bismuth.


What are the dates and location for Megaplex 2021?
Megaplex is scheduled for August 6th, 2021 - August 8th, 2021 and we will be returning to the Caribe Royale. Please do not attempt to book at this time as much work still needs to be done to get everything ready for next year.


Will Megaplex be offering an online convention?
Actually, this is something we are looking into currently. If we do offer the online event our hope would be to hold it during the originally planned dates for this year’s convention and provide it free to those that transfer or donate their registrations with a small fee for everyone else. We will post any updates to this on social media and our website.


How are the staff doing?
As you can imagine this is a very hard announcement for us to make. Though the majority of us knew that this was a possibility it still is very difficult to face the reality that something we have poured our lives into won't happen due to factors outside our control. Please be respectful to our staff and direct all of your questions to We also ask for your understanding as we may not be able to respond right away over the next few weeks as they will be extremely difficult for us.


I didnt pre-reg. Can I still Donate?
Florida United Furry Fandom, Inc. is a 501c3 Public Charity and as such any donations are tax deductible.


Can I still donate to the C.A.R.E. Foundation?
The C.A.R.E. Foundation is dependent on all of us and like us has been affected by this pandemic. We have set up a way to donate through us. If you go to the donate button above you can designate your donation for C.A.R.E. and we will make sure it gets to them.
