Why Book at the Convention Hotel?
"Why should I stay at the Radisson Worldgate Hotel for Megaplex when I could spend less money somewhere else?"
That's a very good question, and we wanted to take a moment to explain the benefits of staying at the Megaplex convention hotel.
For starters, $89/night is a really good rate for a hotel space so close to the Disney theme parks and many other nearby Kissimmee attractions. Hotels with much less to offer often charge over $100/night these days. And, don't forget that when you book in the Megaplex block, you do not have to pay the daily "resort fee", so your cost is just $89 + tax for each day.
If you do stay somewhere else, then you'll have to find a way to get to the convention hotel each day and then back again each night to wherever you are staying. If you are a fursuiter, or someone who like to stay up late (or both), it is so much more convenient to have a room in the convention hotel instead of having to go off-site to get to wherever you are staying. It's also much easier to just take a short break (or even a nap) during the day if you have a room in the convention hotel.
There's also another benefit to booking in the convention hotel - you help Megaplex to be able to offer you all of the wonderful programming that we provide every year. In order to put on a convention like Megaplex, we have to sign a contract with the hotel to fill a certain number of guest rooms, known as our "Room Block". In return for filling our Room Block, the hotel gives us a notable discount on the event space that we use for the convention. Without that discount, we wouldn't be able to afford all of the space that we currently use, and we would not be abe to offer as many events and services during the convention.
That said, staying at the convention hotel is in no way required to be able to attend Megaplex -- as long as you purchase your con membership, either ahead of time or at-the-door, and follow all of our Convention Policies, you can stay somewhere else and still attend the convention. In fact, people who live in the area will sometimes even commute to the convention hotel from their home each day. Ultimately, you will have to weigh all of the pros and cons of each option available to you and make the decision that best meets your needs and fits your budget.
